Quality Control Manager – Pharmaceuticals                                                                     

Role: Full-time, permanent

Location: Fawdon, Newcastle upon Tyne

The Role

Due to retirement we’re seeking a pragmatic and strategic QC (Quality Control) Manager to join our QC laboratory, at our Accord Healthcare Fawdon manufacturing site. The QC Manager will be instrumental in overseeing the general management of our QC lab, managing a team of Senior QC Analysts and QC Analysts in all aspects of monitoring, developing and testing of sterile and non-sterile products. These include solid oral dose and effervescent tablet formats, along with speciality medicaments such as potent drugs and Oncology products. In this demanding and varied role, you’ll work closely with other departments to understand our production requirements and to plan the timely testing of our product batches across your teams to ensure our production and testing schedules are met. Working collaboratively with the Associate Director of Quality, you’ll oversee method validations, method developments, method transfers and our stability testing programme, as well as the analysis of a variety of samples including APIs, intermediates and finished products using HPLC, FTIR, UV/VIS and GC techniques. All testing is conducted to meet MHRA and GMP compliance standards and as such you’ll ensure your teams are trained appropriately, follow processes and instructions closely and that accurate records and documents are maintained at all times. Keeping up to date will all technological advancements in QC testing in the Pharmaceutical industry, you’ll inspire and continuously develop your team to effectively manage all aspects of QC testing, ensuring testing is performed to current standards and in line with changing business needs. You’ll ensure all investigations and the review of data is performed to cGMP and cGLP standards, ensuring all necessary documentation is firmly in place to ensure compliance for a Quality Control laboratory within the pharmaceutical industry. 

The Person

  • Significant experience in a similar QC Management role within a pharmaceutical GMP compliant quality control laboratory.
  • Confident in all aspects of manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, with good working knowledge of testing and sampling of manufacturing products in a technical environment using testing and sampling techniques including HPLC, UV, IR, Dissolution, KF titrator.
  • Good understanding of relevant EU regulations, GxP and GLP industry requirements.
  • Experience of managing, motivating and developing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills – happy relating to people of all levels, navigating cultural differences and using subtle negotiating and influencing skills to get the best outcomes.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience of using digital QMS and stock management systems (e.g. SAP).
  • Degree level qualification in a Science subject.
