The Role
We’re seeking a proactive and empathetic Senior Occupational Health Advisor to help implement and manage our in-house Occupational Health service and to support the active maintenance of our clinical governance to continually improve the service we deliver to our employees, as and when they need us. As we move our Occupational Health service in-house, your main remit will be supporting and managing our case referrals (e.g. sickness, absence, rehabilitation), from assessments and advising on best course of action (e.g. treatment plans, restrictions of duties, reasonable adjustments) through evidence-based reports to liaising with external supplier to support this activity, as required. You will be supported by two colleagues, focussing on mental health and health surveillance activities. Working closely with our HR team and Managers, to provide current professional insight around legislative requirements, proactively feed into our wellbeing activities and internal training and review our policies and procedures with regards to OH requirements to continually improve the working lives of our people. To make our service the best it can be, you’ll communicate workplace trends and advise on action plans to meet statutory and voluntary requirements for health protection, surveillance and KPI reporting. In addition, you’ll act as our Data Controller for our OH data, ensuring confidentiality and accurate information is maintained at all times. The Person
- Significant experience in a previous responsible Occupational Health role, with experience of dealing with a broad range of cases and wellbeing activities.
- Valid, up-to-date registration with the NMC (part 3) and able to comply with NMC guidelines in relation to professional issues, clinical supervision and continuous learning and development as a registered nurse.
- Registered RGN, with OH Diploma or BSc Community Nursing with specialist practitioner status (Specialist Community Public Health Nurse), or equivalent.
- Experience working closely with Managers to provide clear advice and support for employees.
- Excellent communication skills (in written and spoken English), able to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels to influence the best outcomes and navigate cultural differences.
- A naturally caring and empathetic individual who can quickly foster a sense of trust.
- Able to act with credibility and authority to maintain the right balance between protecting employee health and supporting the interests and reputation of the company.
- Experience in managing medical confidentiality, ethics and accountability.
