Role: Full-time, Permanent, Double days
Location: Fawdon, Newcastle upon Tyne

The Role
The Manufacturing Shift Leader is responsible for all aspects of shift operational performance (Safety, Quality Cost, Delivery and people). Ensuring that the Site Operations are conducted in accordance with cGMP, cGDP and Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, SOPs and company policies.
Working with the wider Operations team, the Shift Leader will be responsible for leading and developing the Shift manufacturing teams to ensure the operational standards, behaviours and practices associated with a highly regulated manufacturing organisation are engrained within the operational teams.
- To lead, manage and improve all departmental operations in accordance with cGMP, cGDP and Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, SOPs and company policies.
- To ensure Site Operational targets are met and shift resources are aligned to meet short medium and longer term customer demand and business expectations.
- To plan, control and co-ordinate all the activities and the resources within manufacturing and relevant support functions to produce pharmaceutical products effectively and achieve product output to the required standards of quality, cost, delivery and customer service.
- Meet site operational targets by the application of effective resource management, which will include the reduction of material wastage and improvements in productivity and the efficient performance of both people and equipment
- Through a range of key performance indicators measure, monitor and review all aspects of shift operational performance; to develop and implement short, medium and long term plans to support the business goals and objectives associated with quality, cost delivery and customer service.
- Regularly review shift team skills and competencies and establish training and development plans to strengthen the team’s capabilities. Coaching and mentoring staff to continually improvement operational standards, behaviours, practices and performance.
- Carry out regular audits of the area to ensure readiness for MRHA visits
The Person
Significant experience within the pharmaceutical industry
In-depth knowledge and experience of cGMP and cGDP guidelines and pharmaceutical processes
Experience and skilled in continuous improvements / lean manufacturing techniques
Excellent organisational and people management skills
High level of numeracy skills and competent in basic computer software packages
Ability to work under pressure but maintaining attention to detail, schedule resources, and support teams
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrable success in managing, training and developing high performing teams
Ability to work autonomously and organise own workload efficiently
Practical hands-on approach with a ‘can do’ attitude
Excellent team player
Lean Manufacturing qualification preferred but exposure to, and practice of, is essential
HNC Qualified in relevant subject with extensive pharmaceutical know how
