Business Unit Support Lead

Role: Full-time, Permanent, Double days

Location: Fawdon, Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: Competitive + shift allowance + bonus + benefits

 

The Role

Reporting to the Manufacturing Shift Leader you will provide first line support for the efficient operation of operation areas within the Business Unit as well as being responsible for achieving and maintaining safety and quality compliance.  To support the Business Unit Leader to ensure all operational KPI’s are met, challenged, and improved.

 

To drive continuous improvement activity with the operational areas within the business unit, identifying and driving through opportunities to improve line OEE to completion.

 

 

  • Detailed knowledge of the functional area and/or build strong relationships with those who do to harness their knowledge.
  • To ensure deviations are raised, investigated thoroughly to root cause and completed within internal SLA’s.   Lead focused quality activity for operational areas within BU.
  • To drive the creation and timely completion of SMART CAPA’s to improve area compliance within the stated timelines, aiming to reduce or eliminate the root cause category.
  • To support progression of customer complaints, Quality and Safety Risk assessments associated with the BU.
  • CAPA/CR management - ensuring CAPA’s and CR’s are closed within original timelines and progressed in a timely manner from creation.
  • Troubleshoot more complex problems utilizing problem solving tools, liaising within and outside of own department to resolve issues successfully and efficiently.
  • Ensure best practice is shared across BU’s with regards to Safety, Quality and Efficiency.
  • To be safety risk assessor and support in risk assessments as and when required
  • To own OEE data and ensure accuracy, prioritization and successive reduction or elimination of issues contributing to unplanned downtime.
  • To lead continuous Improvement activity with operational teams & manage a portfolio of continuous improvement projects ensuring involvement from operational staff to manage routine CI activity.
  • To work closely with Business Unit Training Coordinators to support and sponsor progression of Technical Operator and Operator training matrices to drive full cross-training across individual lines/areas.
  • To cover for manufacturing shift leaders as and when required. 
  • Provide feedback on performance of BU Tech Ops and Operators in line with site APP process.

The Person

•Good level of experience in an operations environment working to targets under pressure whilst effectively prioritising workloads.

•Strong leadership and ability to engage workforce in all KPI areas and handle people related issues.

•A good understanding and/or desire to advance knowledge of CI methodology.

•Can identify where improvements can be made and is able to communicate this clearly. Ability to challenge existing processes.

•Works within established processes and procedures with the knowledge to use reasonable initiative within these.

•Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and the ability to communicate issues to other departments and Head of Department as appropriate.

•Demonstrate a good understanding of their area and how it interacts successfully with other functions.

•Good PC skills.

•Ability to direct, train and motivate designated team.

•Ability to manage and coach tech ops and operations teams.

•GMP environment and an understanding of the regulatory requirements.

•Minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and mathematics.

•NVQ Level 3 or appropriate.
